Managing General Partner, IDG Ventures Vietnam

Mr. Nguyen Bao Hoang (Henry Nguyen) currently serves as the Managing General Partner of IDG Ventures Vietnam, a private equity firm focused on consumer, technology, media, and telecom investments in Vietnam. As a founding partner of the Fund, Henry splits his time between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which allows him to oversee both of the firm’s Vietnam offices and to stay in touch with business and government leaders.

 

One of three General Partners, Mr. Hoang concentrates on fund strategy, government relations, general management and operations, and communications. The IDG Ventures team has made over 40 investments since its inception in 2004, including VinaGame (VNG Corporation), BHD Media Holdings, VTC Online, VatGia, YAN Media Group, VC Corporation, Goldsun Focus Media, and Apollo Education among others.

 

Prior to founding IDG Ventures Vietnam, Mr. Hoang has worked at Goldman Sachs, Harvard Medical School, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital as well as being a principal at S2S Medical Publishing and Medschool.com. Mr. Hoang also is the Developmental Licensee for McDonald’s restaurants in Vietnam, which opened its first restaurant in the country in February 2014.

 

Mr. Hoang is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum and an Asia 21 Fellow of the Asia Society. He is the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for Operation Smile Vietnam and has served on the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam. He also serves on the Board of VC Corporation, VTC Online, Vega Technology Group, VinaPay, and Goldsun FocusMedia. He also serves on the Board of Viet Capital Securities and is a member of the Advisory Board of British University Vietnam.

 

Mr. Hoang earned his B.A. in Classics at Harvard University, and his M.D. and M.B.A. from Northwestern University Medical School and the Kellogg School of Management.
