Soe Thane

Born on 7 September, 1948

Graduated from Defense Services Academy in 1969. Joined Myanmar Navy as Sub-lieutenant in 1969. Got ‘Masters’ degree in 1993. Served on various man-of-war and as staff-officer in naval bases. During his 41 year-naval-career, he had attended different naval courses locally as well as abroad in U.K., Denmark, Japan and China. Appointed as Minister for Heavy Industries in 2008 and has become Minister for Industry in 2011.
In addition to minister assignment, he also has to take the responsibilities as Chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission, Chairman of Industrial Development Committee and Chairman of SME Development Bank. He has great interest and been actively engaged in poverty alleviation, SME development and promotion, initiation for renewable energy, Solar energy application for grass root people and Green Economy-Green Growth activities. He is married to a University Lecturer and has three children.
